YAKIMA -- Dan Obrist finally made the drive from Portland to Yakima Speedway for the ASA Late Model event worth his while Saturday night.
Obrist started things off by posting the fast time in the division, and then he made a late move to pass Mike Zamora and win the main event.
In the 50-lap race, Obrist, who has driven up from Portland for every Late Model race at the Speedway the past two years, got past Zamora on lap 49 of the
50-lap race and held him off, with Ron Bemis third.
Owen Riddle, the defending Late Model champion, led the first
30 laps, before Zamora moved past him into the lead, holding that position until Obrist caught him.
Randy Marshall Jr. won his second straight Hobby Sportsman main event, outdueling Jeff Stevenson for the entire 25 laps.
Tyson Richter added to his points lead in the Hobby Division with a victory in the main event. Other winners Saturday were Terry Cook (Hornets), Jacob Little (Youth Hornets) and Jason Trujillo (Bump to Pass).
Friday's race event has been canceled. The next event will be Saturday, Aug. 9.

Longton 2nd in Montana 200
KALISPELL, Mont. -- Mike Longton of Moxee finished second in the
18th annual Montana 200, just missing a late run at two-time winner Gary Lewis of Snohomish and his $12,000 first-place check.
Longton moved into second on lap 165 and managed to pull even with Lewis with five laps left but Lewis benefitted from lapped traffic and an inside line on the high-banked Raceway Park.
"There in the last few laps it looked (Lewis) was beginning to lose the handle and I really tried to take advantage of it," Longton said, "but he's just too strong when out front. I am happy to come home with a second-place finish."
Yakima's Erick Hargraves, last year's runner-up here, finished 14th.
