LEXINGTON, Ohio -- Yakima native Cindi Lux, the victim of a practice collision on Friday and a faulty gearbox on Sunday, finished 28th in the Sports Car Club of America's SPEED World Challenge race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Lux had recorded ninth- and fifth-place finishes in her first two series races this season, but was unable to recover from a violent collision Friday.

While braking heavily for a sharp turn during a practice run, Lux and her Dodge Viper were hit hard from behind.

Lux wasn't seriously injured, and while her crew was able to repair the body of the car, it was unable to inspect the gearbox. During the race, Lux was unable to use third gear.

It was not known afterward whether the problem had been caused by the wreck.

"It's one of those weekends in racing that you hate to encounter," Lux said in a news release, "but they do happen at times."

Next on the circuit is an Aug. 10 race at Road America at Elkhart Lake, Wis.
