WAPATO — The marijuana came in the mail, but the postman turned out to be an undercover drug officer.
Authorities say two brothers were arrested late Thursday morning in Wapato after accepting delivery of a 25-pound package of marijuana at their home in the 100 block of West B Street.
The marijuana, possibly grown in Mexico, would have been worth about $25,000, authorities said.
Postal inspectors discovered the illegal package while it was being mailed from Texas to Wapato,
according to a news release from Law Enforcement Against Drugs, the Lower Valley drug task force.
An undercover officer delivered the package, then the men were arrested without a problem, a LEAD official said. Both suspects are in their 20s.
A search of the house revealed a scale and some packaging material, but no additional marijuana, the official said.
“I think they were waiting for their re-supply,” the official said.
Thursday’s announcement was the latest big marijuana case for LEAD.
Since this spring, agents have taken down two major outdoor marijuana grows and at least one smaller one.
More than 28,000 marijuana plants were seized in those cases.
