For the second year in a row, works by local artists -- featured on a pint glass canvas -- will be available to purchase with proceeds benefiting the Allied Arts of Yakima Valley.
The second annual Painted Pints Party will be Sept. 3 at the G-Spot bar in Gasperetti's Restaurant, 1013 N. First St.
The glasses -- an estimated 300, each adorned with hand-painted, one-of-a-kind works of art by more than 30 artists -- will be sold for $25 each on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 5:30 p.m. (But you don't have to wait in line the whole time this year; numbers will be assigned as you walk in.) There will also be a silent auction component to the party, which is free to attend.
"Really, $25 is a deal," says Jessica Moskwa, Allied Arts executive director. "These are original pieces."
And "glass lust" is already in full effect, confirms Moskwa.
Folks have been trying to sneak a peek at the pint-sized paintings, which range from lush landscapes by Delma Tayer to quirky beer labels created by Brian Holtzinger, a Mighty Tieton series by Ed Marquand, splashy abstracts from Daniel DeSiga and even a set from fabric artist Carol Fletcher, who created fabric art "coozies" for each glass.
A selection of the painted pints is now on display at the Allied ArtsCenter. You can also check out a few of the glasses via On's Flickr page at www.flickr.com/onmagazine.)
Last year, the nearly 200 glasses available sold out in about an hour and brought in $4,000 for the nonprofit Allied Arts, which puts on such events as the free summer ArtsVan program, the family theater and outdoor movies series, and the juried poetry reading and coffeehouse.
The Painted Pints Party is presented in conjunction with the Fresh Hop Ale Festival -- another Allied Arts' fundraiser -- and those who purchase a pint glass will get $5 off on a ticket to the downtown brew-haha, which is Oct. 4 at the Millennium Arts Plaza.
There'll be microbrews, wine, food vendors, a cigar tent and live music by The Blue Tropics and The Shreds. Full-price tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the gate.
