Hungry? Head to Ahtanum Valley for spaghetti

Ahtanum Valley Assembly of God is hosting a spaghetti feed Thursday night.

The dinner features pasta, French bread, salad, a beverage and dessert.

The cost is $5 for adults or $20 for a family of up to six with a maximum of two adults. Children 3 and under eat for free.

The event takes place at the church at 7803 Ahtanum Road. For more information, call the church at 248-1251.

 

Continental Singers to perform Friday night

The Continental Singers will be in concert at Ahtanum Pioneer Church on Friday night.

The mission of the Christian evangelical group is to "advance the kingdom of Jesus Christ around the world through music missions, leadership development and performing arts ministries."

The singing group formed in 1967 as a nonprofit, inter-denominational ministry. Today, the young singers perform about 1,500 concerts a year.

Friday's event is free and begins at 7 p.m. at the church, 8500 Ahtanum Road. An offering will be collected. For more information, visit www.continentalsingers.org.

 

Camp Jubilee offering Summer Adventure sessions

A Christian camp for kids is offering three sessions this summer.

Camp Jubilee's Summer Adventure sessions run July 28-30, Aug. 4-6 and Aug. 11-13. The camp, for children ages 8 to 11, features arts and crafts, Bible verses, skits, worship and outdoor activities such as hiking.

The cost is $25 per child for two nights and three days. The camp is 35 miles west of Yakima, off U.S. Highway 12.

Parish festival set at Resurrection in Zillah

Resurrection Parish in Zillah is holding its annual parish festival Sunday.

The bilingual event -- hosted in Spanish and English -- takes place from noon to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Catholic church at 704 Schooley Road.

The festival features food, music, door prizes, vendors, contests, inflatable toys, a dunking booth and more. Admission is free. Proceeds will go toward reducing parish debt with the Diocese of Yakima.

Catch Esterlyn at the Gorge, then for free in Yakima

Esterlyn will be performing on the Fringe Stage at Creation Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre on July 26. A day ticket costs $45.

But on July 27, the Christian band is giving a concert in Yakima for free. Christian Life Center is hosting the show, which starts at 6 p.m. at the church, 716 N. 40th Ave.

The four-piece band, led by frontman Luke Caldwell, has been building a fan base within the Calvary Chapel system, where Caldwell was a youth pastor for four years. Esterlyn has opened for Stellar Kart and Kutless. Its first hit song, "We All Need," was filmed in 20 locations during three days around Boise, Idaho, the band's hometown.

Harvest Evangelism founder to speak in Sunnyside

Ed Silvoso is coming to Sunnyside next weekend.

The founder and president of the San Jose, Calif.-based Harvest Evangelism will speak Friday and July 26 at Sunnyside High School.

The Friday night session takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Saturday session runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost for both is $25. The price includes lunch on Saturday. Scholarships are available.

Silvoso will be talking about how to transform communities through prayer and relationships. He calls his presentations Marketplace Ministries.

The event is sponsored by Transformation Sunnyside, a group of business people representing different Christian denominations.

Guest preacher to talk on 'Making Friendships'

Tim Roehl will be the guest preacher Sunday morning at Yakima Evangelical Church.

The theme of his sermon is "Making Friendships That Last."

Roehl is the director of Harvest Ministries for the Evangelical Church denomination and leader of the Assessing, Coaching, Teambuilding Strategically program for Church Resource Ministries. He lives in Minnesota.

Roehl has taught church planting and leadership across the United States and in Russia, Korea and Germany, among other countries. His latest book, "Transformissional Coaching," which he co-wrote, is due out in September.

Roehl was a pastor for more than 20 years in Milwaukee and Minneapolis before joining CRM eight years ago.

He will preach at 10:45 a.m. at the Yakima church, 7901 W. Nob Hill Blvd.

 

Ex-pro Hutcherson speaking at Wiley Union Church

Ken Hutcherson, a former professional football player, will be the guest speaker Sunday morning at Wiley Union Church.

Hutcherson, who played for the Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks, is now senior pastor of the Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland, Wash. He's an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriages and favors adoption reform.

He will speak during the 10:15 a.m. worship service at the church, 2711 S. Wiley Road, at the corner of South Wiley and Ahtanum roads in West Valley.

Bahá'í community bringing in guest speaker

Yakima's Bahá'í community welcomes Gary Morrison on Tuesday.

Morrison will be the guest speaker at a potluck dinner. Food will be served beginning at 6 p.m. His talk on the "Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Hong Kong" starts at 7:30 p.m.

Morrison is the assistant director of the Yew Chung Educational Foundation, a Christian nonprofit foundation that has established international schools in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongquing and Qingdao in China, as well as in England and the United States.

Morrison currently serves on the National Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Hong Kong. He has been a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a Fullbright Fellow. He has also served as general secretary of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the Hawaiian Islands.

Bethel men ready for annual program

The Mighty Men of Bethel are hosting their annual Men's Day Program on Sunday afternoon.

The theme of the event -- "Men of God Called to Purpose" -- is based on Romans 8:28. The guest speaker -- the Rev. Wayne Jenkins -- is the pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Pasco.
