SELAH -- Cody Edwards' two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning completed a two-run rally that lifted the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak to a 4-3 win over the Yakima Pepsi Beetles at Carlon Park on Monday night and a split of their regular season-ending Senior Legion doubleheader.
The Beetles won the first game 4-3.
In the nightcap, with two out in the seventh, Cory Urquhart doubled and was driven home by John Plughoff's triple. Edwards then hit a shot to left that would have gone for extra bases, but went into the scorebook as an RBI single.
The Pak (39-16) is headed to the state tournament at Vancouver and will play against a yet-to-be-determined opponent at 4 p.m. Friday.
The Beetles (34-24) will host Wenatchee at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the Central Washington League's final state berth.
In the opener, Ryan VanBeek's RBI double in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference.
Jose Meza singled, doubled and drove in three runs for the Beetles while Ryan Durkee hit a solo homer in the sixth for the Pak.
Meza doubled in two runs in the second for a 2-1 Yakima lead after Dustin Daniels' RBI single had put the Pak on the board in the first inning.
The Beetles' Tyler Doornink held Yakima Valley scoreless from that point until Durkee's homer and got the win, despite yielding 10 hits. Trent Sikes doubled in Yakima's other run in the fourth.
In the second game, Seth Kline was 3-for-4 and VanBeek was 2-for-3 for Yakima while Chris Demond and Jake Fife had two hits each for the Pak. Justin Windsor pitched a complete game in the nightcap, striking out nine.
